August 30 - Diamond Head

Todays hike was to the top of Diamond Head Crater. From the trailhead it is a 1 mile (761 feet elevation gain) hike up with 271 steps. Oh so fun... burn baby burn! :-)

After the first 74 steps (about half way up) is a nice little lookout which used to be used as an observation station for the military. We took a water break.

C & Aiden, S & Treston & Mom and Kailea.

Then it was off through a 225-foot tunnel, 99 more stairs, lighted spiral staircase (#of stairs?), through some concrete windows (once covered with camo and such) up 54 more stairs to the top. At the top is the beautiful view of Waikiki Beach. And we were also able to see one of the other Hawaiian Islands - Molokai' in the distance. A great time had by all!

August 23, 2007 - Aiea Loop Hike

This weeks hike was to the very popular Aiea Loop. The kids and I had done the hike about 4-5 weeks ago, and had decided to go again with family. The hike is a loop of about 4.5 miles. It has beautiful scenery throughout; and ofcourse is a great workout. The boys enjoy there bragging rights when talking to others about their "5" mile hike. It is fun to see them feeling so good about accomplishing something so big.

Ok, we didn't get the chance to go on our weekly hike. Our schedule is always a bit different when dad comes home. But, we did get to have our Friday Pizza and Game Night. We also finished the night off with some fun dancing. Kailea loves dancing with Minnie Mouse. Treston is such a sweetie. Dad is gettin' jiggy with it! It is so good to have Stephen home. The kids just adore their father... and hate it when he is gone.

August 10, 2007 - YEAH DAD IS HOME!!!

I will upload pics soon... but so excited that Stephen is home. He just returned from a short (5 weeks) deployment. We stayed in Hawaii and played... while he was able to enjoy a few weeks in San Deigo(amidst the not so fun time out to sea). Stephen had a great time with his parents (Jenny and Tom) as they were able to come visit and lift his spirits. And also his sister (Liz and kids) took a weekend trip to visit and play in the ocean. Thanks so much!!! :-) It is always great to have our family together again... even if it is only for one or two days.

August 10, 2007 - Puu Pia Hike

We (B,T,A&K) took this beautiful hike with our cousin Crista. We started out at the foothill and proceeded through the beautiful greenery up, up and up to the top of the mountain. The hike is a good 2.5 miles, up 500 ft. It was a good one to get the back of the legs workin! Treston took a great pic among some overgrown roots, and Aiden showed off his awesome balancing skills. The kids (with Kailea) stood at the top of the bench and shouted "King of the Mountain". It was really fun. The views were spectacular. The picture shows Waikiki Beach in the background.

August 3, 2007 - Hike to Waimano Valley

We (B,T,A&K) had a great time on this hike with our cousin Crista. It is a 2.5 mile hike; starting in the valley and ending up on the ridge. One of our favorite hikes.
